Keeping Our Game Great: A Reminder on Sideline Behaviour

Hi Everyone,

As we head into the final weeks of the competition, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible effort, teamwork and spirit our players have shown this year.

Community football is all about having fun, getting fit and enjoying the competition!

However, recent weeks have seen a disappointing rise in poor sideline behaviour across local fields, including instances involving our own wombats community. We have witnessed aggressive reactions toward young referees, unacceptable comments directed at opposition players and parents escalating minor on-field incidents.

This behaviour does not align with our club values and will not be tolerated. We must remember that without referees, there is no game. Without an opposition, there is no competition.

Here is our unwavering Code of Conduct for all parents, spectators, and officials:

  • Respect the Officials: Do not question or intimidate referees or game leaders. Many are young and learning, just like our players
  • Encourage, Don’t Coach: Your role on the sideline as a spectator is to support. Leave the tactical instructions and issue resolution to the Coaches and Managers
  • Zero Tolerance for Abuse: Swearing, aggressive body language, or targeting opposition players is strictly prohibited
  • De-escalate: If tensions rise, walk away. Do not engage with opposition parents in a negative manner

We have total control over the standards we set on our sidelines. Let’s commit to being a club that stands for respect, inclusivity and positivity. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us keep the game safe and fun for everyone.

Best regards,

Isabella Dalton (Nimmo)
